Manhattan

Sentimental episodes in the sexual life of a New York television writer whose last wife (Streep) abandoned him for a woman. In this love poem to an internalized and dreamed-of Manhattan, set in the sublime black and white of Gordon Willis or caressed by the songs of George Gershwin, more important than the story are the characters and the tone in which they are told. A drama with light comedic accents: the summation of Allen's work, which is for many critics and viewers their favorite film, the one that will remain. In fact, it wasn't even nominated for an Oscar. Allen's first film in black and white and anamorphic. The author wasn't satisfied with it: too static. First film with Susan E. Morse as editor.
