Double Indemnity

Insurance salesman Walter Neff (Fred MacMurray) meets Phyllis Dietrichson (Barbara Stanwyck), the wife of a client, whose sensuality will fascinate him so much that he becomes first her lover and then an accomplice in her husband's murder. After taking out life insurance on her, the two hatch a plan to receive double the indemnity (hence the original title, Double Indemnity) in the event of her death under rare circumstances. To obtain the sum, they decide to first murder the man in the car and then throw him onto the tracks, thus making it appear that he died from a fall from the train. But the plan encounters an insurmountable obstacle: Walter is unmasked by his close friend and colleague Barton Keyes (Edward G. Robinson).
