The Godfather

1940s. As is customary, during the reception celebrating his daughter Conny's wedding to Carlo, "godfather" Don Vito Corleone promises assistance and protection to family and friends. He sends his stepson Tom Hagen to California to persuade producer Jack Woltz to cast singer Johnny in his next film. Woltz refuses. Tom then forces him to accept with a "warning": the killing of his favorite thoroughbred horse. Sollozzo, on behalf of the powerful Tartaglia family, asks Corleone for funding and support for drug trafficking. The refusal sparks a bloody battle between the two clans: Don Vito himself is seriously injured; his youngest son Michael saves him from a second assassination attempt. Michael then, bypassing his impetuous brother Sonny and the procrastinating Tom, arranges a meeting with Sollozzo and the corrupt police captain McCluskey, killing them both.
